Welcome to this special feature of our IAS Newsletter “Walking in a Lawyer’s Shoes”, where we spotlight the experiences of our legal team as we work to support and guide our clients.

This month, we’re sharing a memorable teambuilding day, organized in collaboration with Just a Change, to renovate the facilities of the Red Cross in Oliveira do Douro, Vila Nova de Gaia. These facilities, located near Porto, serve as a day center for elderly people in the community, and we were honored to contribute to improving their space.

Morning Kickoff: Laying the Foundations

Our day began with a shared breakfast, fueling up for the tasks ahead. Donning personalized IAS and Just a Change T-shirts, we felt a growing sense of unity as we prepared to make a difference. After a warm welcome from the coordinators, we divided into groups, each assigned specific responsibilities for the renovation.

Our first mission: preparation. Together, we cleared the space and carefully prepped the kitchen and all doors and windows for painting. The collaborative energy and shared enthusiasm were already palpable, setting the tone for a day of productivity and camaraderie.

Midday Momentum: Laying the Foundation

With tools and materials in hand, we got to work applying primer and the first coat of paint. The transformations began to take shape, with each stroke revealing the potential of the space. Breaks were filled with laughter and teamwork, strengthening bonds between colleagues outside our usual office environment.

Lunch brought a welcome pause and an opportunity to learn more about the purpose of our efforts. We gathered to hear stories about the Red Cross facility and its significance as a haven for elderly residents in the area. We also learned about the impactful work of Just a Change, which dedicates itself to restoring dignity through renovation projects for those in need. These moments of reflection gave even greater meaning to the work we were doing.

An Afternoon of Action: Paint, Perseverance, and Progress

Refreshed and inspired, we returned to our tasks with renewed energy. The first coat of paint was soon followed by the second, as we worked methodically to ensure a smooth, professional finish. With music playing in the background and laughter filling the air, the afternoon became a testament to the power of collaboration.

As the space transformed with each stroke of paint, we couldn’t help but feel proud of what we were accomplishing. It wasn’t just about the fresh walls—it was about creating a welcoming, vibrant environment for the elderly community members who rely on these facilities every day.

Evening Wrap-Up: Cheers to a Job Well Done

We ended the day on a celebratory note, gathering to share a beer and reflect on what we had accomplished. It was a moment to unwind, connect, and appreciate the collective effort that had brought the project to life.

Why This Matters: Building Bonds Through Service

Our collaboration with Just a Change and the Red Cross was more than just a day of team building—it was an opportunity to give back, create meaningful change, and strengthen our connection as a team. Stepping away from our professional roles to work toward a shared goal reminded us of the power of community and the impact we can make when we work together.

At IAS, initiatives like this underscore our commitment to not only supporting our clients but also contributing to the world around us.

Thank you for joining us for this behind-the-scenes look at our day. Stay tuned for more stories about how IAS is making a difference—both in the office and beyond.
