Reestructuring of SEF postponed by the government

22 April, 2022

The Portuguese government has just announced that the restructuring of SEF, scheduled for May 12, 2022, will be postponed, until a date to be announced on a later stage.

The government believes that the necessary conditions for a dignified transition are not met and declared that it will work on a transitional regime until the full implementation of the new entity that will take over SEF´s current duties.

For now, there is still no date for the beginning of the transitional period, or for the final transition of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) to a new entity.

Finally and, when questioned about the current blocking of various authorisations, including those for investment, the Minister of Foreign Affairs acknowledged that the Government was aware of the problem and that there would be future reinforcement of resources on the short term.
