2020 REAL ESTATE ATTEMPT TO REDUCE SPECULATION AND COVID-19 PANDEMIC EFFECTS IN ECONOMY

The Portuguese State budget brought in a law in January 2020 which gave the government the possibility to change the law in order to limit the concentration of main urban hubs – Lisbon and Porto – where it was felt that there were rapid increases of real estate prices due to speculation. However, on various platforms, due to the world-wide recessionary effects of Covid-19, it has been unofficially been alluded to at high government levels, that changes will not take place for economic reasons.
